That Stack of Cards

We all have THAT stack of cards on our desk.  You know, the one that keeps saying to you “look at me! I have the connection you are looking for.” Nevertheless, we ignore those cards.  Way too many of them and never enough time to really go through the cards, throw in the trash the ones that you will never call and call the ones you should.  So how can you make this card vetting a less detestable task?

One way of course is by calling The Ivy Network and we can do that for you. That is part of our service. We vet through, investigate and come up with the list of those connections you should reach out to.  And we will even reach out and set up the meeting for you.  With years of networking connecting under our belts, we know who to throw and who to meet.  We don’t waste time, we are serious networkers, not schmoozers or wheel spinners.

A couple of other tips before I finish…

Pile the Pile – Have established piles labeled with titles that will make you act - definite, not so much, NO – you can throw these out immediately. As soon as you get back to the office, pile your pile.

Calendar Time – Just like you do to meet a person, calendar time to meet your cards and contacts.

Keep it a Mole Hill, Not a Mountain – With time calendared, clean out your piles.  Don’t just clean, make appointments.  And yes, that DOES mean call!

Know Before You Go

The other day I was at one of LI’s largest charity/networking events, The Go Red for Women Luncheon.  This event brings together over 900 of LI’s most enthusiastic networkers.  Most attend because of the networking, not the charity.  Ok, maybe some are raffle enthusiasts and others love wearing red, but if it was about charity, why wear a name tag that lists your name and company? That is done because the draw of these events is the networking.

My question is, so once there, how do you network with 900 people and turn it into potential business? This is a difficult undertaking.  Even if you are a speed reader of name tags or can read name tags without your glasses (which is always a problem for me, so I appreciate when the tags have large print) you have embarked on a difficult mission.  I have some successful techniques to maximize my large group networking that I thought I would share with you.

Know Before You Go – Research who is attending

Who is in Your Circle – Connect with those in your circle and see who can connect you
